The Dry Cleaner

About Jerry

Jerry Pozniak took over as the director of Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park back in 1984. His vision was simple, to take a simple neighborhood dry-cleaner and transform it into a nationally known destination for fine garment care.

His firm acquired the New York operation of Jeeves of Belgrava, London’s Finest Dry Cleaner in 2007. His firm also owns Arthur Copeland Cleansers (established 1934) on Long Island’s South Shore.

Jerry holds the distinction of having all of his firms selected as “America’s Best Cleaners.” Less than 35 dry-cleaning firms in the USA have been selected to join this prestigious group. (www.AmericasBestCleaners.com)

Jeeves of Belgravia holds the royal warrant as “Dry Cleaner for H.R.H. the Prince of Wales.” (Prince Charles and his family.)

Jerry’s background is rather unique. He is a graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts. But his education did not stop there.

While seeing to the day-to-day operations of Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park he also attended the French Culinary Institute, New York School of Dry-Cleaning, and New York University.

His varied background has given him tremendous insight to the handling of antique and luxury garments as well as a unique perspective to food stain removal.

A distinctive feature of Jerry’s management style is that he personally handles any garment that requires his expertise. This is very uncommon in the high-end dry-cleaning market and it is what separates him from other operators.

Jerry recently was called upon to personally clean two irreplaceable Balenciaga gowns for a retrospective of Mr. Balenciaga’s work at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, France.

Jerry is also responsible for the cleaning of the entire wardrobe for the Metropolitan Opera House which in 2009 was over 35,000 costumes.

Clients of Jerry’s firms include; Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Fashion Institute of Technology, Cooper Hewitt Museum, Yohji Yammamato Couture, Calvin Klein, Comme des Garcons, Valentino, J. Mendel, and Broadway’s “The Pirate Queen”.

Recently established, his on-site tailoring department has traveled to insure that gowns worn by Tilda Swinton, Demi Moore, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Eva Longoria Parker on the red carpet fit perfectly. Jerry personally has taken care of alterations for Terrence Howard, Anna Ortiz and Robert Verdi.

Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park specializes in the proper cleaning and archival preservation of bridal gowns and is recommended by bridal specialty boutiques such as; Designer Loft, Jane Wilson Marquis and the Bridal Garden.

Jerry has been featured in; The New York Times, New York Magazine, In Style, National Public Radio, Time-Out New York, Westchester Magazine, Living Magazine, Playboy, House Beautiful as well as other publications and books.
