Both dresses were sent from a different, devastated bride in a quandary. Initially, they both thought that restoration of their dress was impossible, given the amount of mold that had infected each one.

For each dress, the mold issue could have been avoided, had it not been placed in a plastic bag whilst damp for transportation after the wedding.
The first dress, took a dip in the Caribbean, along with the bride and groom, as the photographer choreographed a sunset portrait. When the dress emerged from the sea, only the hem was wet. The dress was then zipped up inside the plastic garment bag, sealing the moisture in, where it sat in St. Maarten for a week. When the bride arrived home, to New York, the hem of the dress was covered in black mold.

The problem with the second dress, started innocently enough. A smudge of cake frosting on the front was washed away, with bottled water, after the reception. The bodice was more than damp, and the dress was placed in the plastic garment bag for shipping back to New York. Once the dress arrived, a greenish, black mold had infected the top of the dress.

Both dresses could be restored, but the results were mixed. About 90% of the mold was removed from the dress that swimming in the sea, where as, a full 100% of the mold was removed from the other dress. A tremendous amount of additional time and labor was needed for both restoration projects, which added hundreds of dollars to the original fee.

Here is a guide for all brides. Four things are necessary for mold to grow.

1. Moisture.

2. Heat.

3. A closed environment.

4. Time (Mold starts growing in 72 hours).

Jeeves does not recommend that you store ANY garment in plastic, especially your wedding dress. If your bridal gown has gotten wet or damp on your wedding day, please let it air dry before placing into any garment bag. A short time after your wedding, you should consider having your dress cleaned, as stains and soil will be more difficult to remove the longer you wait.

Jeeves was introduced to a lovely young lady a few weeks ago, who having purchased a sample gown with only two weeks leading up to her wedding required both cleaning and alterations before the big day. The Jeeves team works their magic and the gown is absolutely perfect for her Prospect Park Wedding.

The young bride had been dreaming about a fall wedding her whole life, so it seemed only fitting that she and her husband-to-be select Halloween weekend as the date for the union. Mother nature had different plans in mind as she dumped an unexpected not to mention unappreciated snow storm over New York on Saturday. This freak storm left the bride unable to take her wedding photos, and her gown very soiled. To make matters worse she had a full glass of red wine spilled on her during the reception!

Jeeves now has his work cut out for him to re-restore this dress in order for the bride to take her wedding photos before the snow comes again!

For all your wedding gown cleaning and restoration needs be sure to come visit Jeeves and his team at the shop on the Upper East Side.

Best,

Your Man Jeeves

Dry Cleaning Tips

The decision to clean and preserve your wedding dress is very important. Whether you’re hoping your dress becomes a family heirloom or you expect to wear it again yourself one day, understanding the delicate nature of your special garment may help make the decision a bit easier.

In normal wearing, skin oils and perspiration are absorbed into the fabric – wine, champagne or other sugary beverages may have even spilled on your dress; these organic compounds will undoubtedly damage the fabric if they are not neutralized or properly removed.

Here at Jeeves, we uphold the importance of having your bridal gown professionally cleaned before being stored long-term. In fact, in addition to cleaning, proper storage is vital to the overall safety and security of such a special garment. Scientific research proves that archival materials can protect delicate fabric from age and decay. For these reasons, we strongly advise against having gown vacuum-sealed as plastics are used. Instead, the preservation process must ensure that your gown be wrapped in acid-free materials before being placed in an acid-free textile storage box.

The box should be stored in an area where temperature and humidity levels are as constant as possible, preferably in a closet that is located on an interior wall; attics or basements are not appropriate locations for storage – in fact, spaces that are in close proximity to heating or air conditioning vents, pipes and even spaces that are exposed to direct sunlight should be carefully avoided.

Upon storage, about every 2-3 years your box should be opened and your gown inspected. But brides remember, always wash your hands with a small amount of baking soda and warm water before handling this precious garment or wear cotton gloves.

For your convenience, if you live or work in the Manhattan area, we would love to arrange a pick-up and return of your gown after it has been cleaned and preserved; outside of Manhattan we can arrange for pick-up and delivery with our partnership with FEDEX. This is just the final detail that protects all of your wedding day memories and guarantees your gown’s perfect preservation for years to come!

What peaks Jeeves’ interests more than guest lists, caterers, and floral arrangements is the one thing that brides for centuries to come will be attempting to replicate, the dress.

It was first rumored that Ms. Middleton will be walking down the aisle wearing Alexander McQueen, next it was Victoria Beckham, also Sophie Cranston, and Alice Temperley. With the wedding a mere 48 hours away and nothing but speculation to answer to Jeeves is on the edge of his seat waiting to see what world renowned designer has earned this high honor.

The London branch of Jeeves has sent a note to the Royal Family to clean and preserve Kate’s gown after her big day. Jeeves will keep you posted if he has any insider information about the dress.

Jeeves handles gorgeous gowns from brides just as lovely as Kate Middleton on a day to day basis. Your man also offers shipping throughout the United State, if he didn’t have so many established shops across the pond perhaps he could be as lucky as to assist.

For all your wedding needs, simply ring your man Jeeves.

It doesn’t have to be difficult.

After your wedding you ask yourself, do I keep my wedding dress or not?

If you want to keep your wedding dress or even sell it, you should have it cleaned. Find a dry cleaner who cleans a lot of wedding dresses, the neighborhood guy who takes care of your husband’s shirts may not do. It is all too easy for a dry cleaner to get into trouble quickly when they are inexperienced with cleaning wedding dresses.

Preservation is not hocus-pocus, you do not need to have chemicals applied or inert gasses pumped into your dress to have it last a really long time. When I was attending the School of Visual Arts in NYC one of my professors drilled into my head, “keep it simple”. Museums use a very simple method to preserve historic textiles and so do we at Jeeves New York. All that needs to be done is to put your dress away clean, store it in contact with acid-neutral materials and put it away someplace where it doesn’t get super hot or damp (no attics or basements).

Jeeves New York uses the same materials and techniques used by major museums for every wedding dress we are given the responsibility of cleaning and preserving. A Jeeves bridal consultant will take care of everything for you, from pick-up anywhere in the world to delivery right back to your door.

It really is simple.

Thanks for listening, Jerry Pozniak, Jeeves New York.

Jeeves could get lost for hours pouring over the wedding gowns online and in magazines, not to mention all the beautiful brides and gowns he sees on a daily basis at the shop. — so you can imagine the excitement your man Jeeves experiences when the seasonal bridal market week comes to New York.

Although Jeeves did not attend any of the fashion shows he did stop by The Wedding Channel Couture Show earlier this week to visit with some of his favorite designers, so that he could have a first hand look at the gowns before they arrived for care in the store.

As you know Jeeves is recommended by top bridal retailers such as Selia Yang, Vera Wang, Bergdorf Goodman, and Temperley London as he is the only luxury care provider in New York to offer truly green and chemical free wedding gown cleaning and preservation services.

Traveling to New York for your wedding, and don’t trust the cleaner back at home? No problem for Jeeves offers worldwide shipping!

For all your wedding gown needs and questions please ring your man Jeeves so that he can care for you and your gown. Don’t be shy and withhold the details of the wedding from your man Jeeves as he can’t get enough of those details.

Tis the season so Jeeves has another wedding antidote in store for you on this fine summer afternoon. The latest addition to Madison Avenue’s vast storefronts is a lovely bridal boutique hosting the ever classic stylings of J.Crew. After reading the rave reviews posted by the New York Times your man Jeeves simply had to check it out for himself.

This was by no means an arduous task as J. Crew is a mere block away from Jeeves New York, so during lunch Jeeves casually slipped out to investigate.

When Jeeves entered he was welcomed by the familiarity of tradition that manages to permeate all J. Crew locations. Amidst the hardwood floors and sparse decorating Jeeves had yet to see a gown which was odd as this was supposed to be a bridal boutique…when his eyes landed on a stairwell he wandered downstairs and happened upon a fitting.

What was curious to Jeeves about the gowns displayed at J. Crew was their simplicity and understated plainness. It seemed to Jeeves that brides would be drawn to these gowns looking for a challenge. A way to create their dream wedding day to their tastes and not at the hand of some designer whom they had never met.

As Jeeves finishing perusing the gowns he could not help but to overhear that J.Crew does not offer alterations for the bridal gowns that they sell. Fortunately for this bride and all other brides who purchase their gowns from J.Crew your man Jeeves is right around the corner and has the best tailor in Manhattan. Jeeves’ head seamstress has been with Jeeves for 25 years, and has been in the business even longer.

You simply won’t be able to find a more able seamstress or tailor to handle your wedding gown alteration needs anywhere else.

For all wedding gown alteration inquiries ring your man Jeeves, and he will be more than happy to oblige so that you can have the dress of your dreams.

Dry Cleaning Tips

Now your man Jeeves may be an old fuddy duddy when it comes to weddings, but never in his wildest dreams would he have guessed brides would opt to sport a a garter and a diaper under their wedding gowns!

Not to fear your eyes are not deceiving you it is simply the latest bridal trend that is sweeping the nation; bridal diapers. Many modern brides are so concerned with missing out on their party or simply are unable to easily shimmy out of their scivvys so they are purchasing a diaper to wear on their big day.

Jeeves was quite intrigued by this fad, so he did some further research to see what distinguished bridal diapers from regular adult diapers. What he found were minor differences, so minor in fact that most women are wearing adult diapers and adding their own style and wedding personality through lace and other embellishments they are adding to their diapers.

In all the articles Jeeves read he was unable to locate one quotation from a groom whose new wife donned a diaper on her big day.

Although these brides may have figured out how to avoid one of the less sanitary locations of the reception, that is not to say her her dress was not soiled in other ways. Such as cake, or champagne.

If your wedding dress was soiled or dirtied during your big day there is an answer even simpler than adult diapers, and that is Jeeves New York. Jeeves has over 25 years experience in cleaning and preserving wedding gowns. Additionally Jeeves New York is the only luxury garment care provider in the state of New York to offer chemical free wedding gown cleaning.

For the very best in wedding gown care in New York City, simply call your man Jeeves.

Dry Cleaning Tips

Your man Jeeves features the latest in bridal trends... the convertible gown!

Dry Cleaning Tips - by Jeeves, NYC's FInest Dry Cleaner

Dry Cleaning Tips

As a man of style, Jeeves has always been a big proponent of versatility. There are few things in one’s wardrobe than a piece that can be worn multiple ways…

Recently, many bridal designers have caught on to this trend and are incorporating two piece gowns into their collections. Whether it is the functionality of the gown or an indecisive bride these dresses are making appearances all over the globe.

Some brides have shared with Jeeves that they wanted a classic, traditional look for their ceremony however wanted to be able to let loose and put on their dancing shoes for the reception which is why they opted for a convertible dress.

These dresses come in all shapes and sizes, with detachable skirts so that brides no longer have to worry about someone holding their ballgown skirt over their head while they use the loo , or worrying that some clumsy guest will spill red wine on the train.

With these new fashions brides can remain elegant and poised throughout their ceremony and photographs, and then slip into something more fun for their party. After all isn’t the wedding all about the dress anyways? So why not have two!

Jeeves’ favorite part about these gowns is that their versatility allows for sustainability. Some designers such as Adele Wechsler have pieces that one can incorporate right into their every day wardrobe. Other designers with convertible collections are Carolina Herrera and Badgeley Mischka just to name a few.

Luckily, for these savvy brides your man Jeeves can assist them with the maintenance of these gowns with his chemical free ECO2 Cleanse system. This will keep their wedding gowns as white as they were before they went down the aisle , and for the shorter dress keep it fresh for reuse whenever they like.

Jeeves is the only luxury provider in Manhattan, and among 12 in the nation to feature this exclusive service for the cleaning and preservation of wedding gowns.

For the best in bridal care just pop in and come visit your man Jeeves. There is nothing he loves more than a blushing bride.
