The staff of Jeeves got a call about 2 weeks ago from an assistant at Vogue.

Vogue, “Do you clean purses?”

Jeeves, “Yes”.

Vogue, “Can you clean a silk clutch with a awful grease stain for tomorrow? It happens to be for a VIP at Vogue.”

Jeeves, “Usually we need more time, but we never say no to VIP’s at Vogue.” (Actually we try never to say no to anyone in distress.)

About an hour later a smartly dressed assistant from Vogue shows up with the purse. It is beautiful and it does have a nasty stain.

Not an easy project when we ask for a week, but one day? And for a VIP.

Well all’s well that ends well. The lads at the Jeeves workshop rose to occasion again, toiling hard into the wee hours of the night. The next morning, when the purse arrived at our 65th Street shop, it looked amazing, all traces of the stain was gone.

A call to Vogue, another smartly dressed assistant arrives with AMEX in hand. name on the card? Anna Wintour. I hope she was pleased.

The stain of the week comes to you a bit late. Friday being the day before July 4th was a holiday for many, so I waited to add this post until today.

The garment that I want to share with you this week is a Balenciaga handbag that was just perfect except that the handles have gotten very dark from use.

At Jeeves of Belgravia we have a special process to remove the oil which collects in the handles of handbags. This process does not change the color or texture of the bag, but “extracts” the oils in the handles. This is a time consuming process that requires a delicate touch.

The most difficult part of this process is making sure that the dye of the handles remains exactly the same color as the rest of the bag. It is very easy to “go to far” with this process and end up with handles which do not match the rest of the bag.

Rest assured the handbag cleaning craftsman at Jeeves of Belgravia have taken care of 100′s of handbags and the utmost care is taken with each and every one.
