While Thanksgiving is a very deeply rooted American tradition, Jeeves has no problem celebrating ( not to mention over-indulging) as the roots of this holiday lie in merry ole’ England with the masts of the Mayflower.

After years of residing in the U.S. , your man Jeeves can’t help but to look forward to one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Unlike many New Yorkers who brave the crowds and the cold Jeeves & Mrs. Jeeves are quite content to watch from the comfort of their own home as they prepare to entertain family and friends.

For the last two years however, this tradition has taken on a new meaning for your man Jeeves as he has been entrusted with the cleaning and caring for the costumes of the Samurai Power Rangers.

Jeeves has been hard at work for the last few days to ensure that these super heroes are able to impress their fans not only with their martial arts, but with their appearance as well.

Jeeves meet the lead ranger at 10PM after their arrival to JFK on Sunday evening to retrieve these brightly colored spandex ensembles from their cross-country trek. There was no time for rest and no room for the weary as Jeeves and his team went straight to the shop to get to work as they were expected by 3PM on Monday afternoon for rehearsal. On Tuesday morning Jeeves dispatched his tailor to meet with the Power Rangers for a custom costume fitting. Once this session was completed the costumes were once again returned to the workshop for repairs, alterations & cleaning. All were completed in time to be returned for yet another rehearsal early Wednesday afternoon.

While the universe counts on the Power Ranges to protect them against the powers of evil, they rely on your man Jeeves to rescue them from sweat stains and broken zippers (fighting the bad guys is hard work) It may not be as glamorous as being a super hero, but people depend on your man Jeeves in the same fashion.

If you plan to tune in and watch the parade tomorrow morning be sure to keep your man Jeeves in mind as he and his team worked very hard to make sure that the vibrant colors of the five masked heroes stand out to all of those watching.

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at the Jeeves shop!

Sincerely,

Your Man Jeeves

Jeeves was introduced to a lovely young lady a few weeks ago, who having purchased a sample gown with only two weeks leading up to her wedding required both cleaning and alterations before the big day. The Jeeves team works their magic and the gown is absolutely perfect for her Prospect Park Wedding.

The young bride had been dreaming about a fall wedding her whole life, so it seemed only fitting that she and her husband-to-be select Halloween weekend as the date for the union. Mother nature had different plans in mind as she dumped an unexpected not to mention unappreciated snow storm over New York on Saturday. This freak storm left the bride unable to take her wedding photos, and her gown very soiled. To make matters worse she had a full glass of red wine spilled on her during the reception!

Jeeves now has his work cut out for him to re-restore this dress in order for the bride to take her wedding photos before the snow comes again!

For all your wedding gown cleaning and restoration needs be sure to come visit Jeeves and his team at the shop on the Upper East Side.

Best,

Your Man Jeeves

Although miss Mother Nature has kept us believing that summer days seem like yesterday, with daydreams of florals and summer whites, as the sun beams along Park Avenue, we must not forget the fall season is under way. Unfortunately, this means most of those whimsical linen dresses and white cotton slacks shall be kept away for another spring day.
We all know that with great fashion opportunity comes great fashion responsibility; therefore, our beloved ‘summer whites’ must be properly cleaned and stored until their next ‘Memorial Debut’. There’s nothing worse than realizing your favorite summer dinner dress wasn’t hibernating during the long winter months; rather, it was being thoroughly enjoyed by your favorite closet critters: moths.
These wardrobe munchers have an uncanny sixth sense when it comes to clothing – their ‘fashion instincts’ are so keen that we’re borderline envious of their abilities to detect microscopic traces of food, oil, and perfume.

These criminals of couture will seek out many liquid stains that dry clear and become virtually naked to the human eye. So while we’re cozying up in comfy cashmere, our resident moths are snacking away on our summer staples. These invisible stains have another culprit; during storage, they can become oxidized resulting in an unflattering brown or yellow pigment. These scenarios are entirely avoidable by properly cleaning and preserving your precious pieces.
So, before such responsibilities are lost in the haze of martini-induced amnesia produced by the last few valiant garden parties, put this little note on your end-of-summer to do list: Take your summer whites to Jeeves, preserve & store! Let’s savor the memories, not the stains.

Years ago an old dry cleaner told Jeeves that he could get ANY stain out of ANY garment, 100% of the time.

Ever heard the phrase “desperate times call for desperate measures?” Well, in our case the phrase is “drastic times call for drastic measures” because sometimes it takes drastic measures to achieve the most drastically-perfect results. This week, a drastic time was met with drastic measures in making a one-of-a-kind gold lame Jackie Rogers gown camera-ready for the Bravo TV show, “Fashion Hunters” (airing soon).

A red ink stain from a Sharpie marker that found its way onto the silk lame of this beautiful gown would undoubtedly be no match made in heaven for any dry cleaner; the fabric is whisper thin and oh, so fragile – one small error and you’re left with yards of what is then nothing but worthless gold lame.

This “drastic task” inspired us to reflect upon the story of an old dry cleaner who once told Jeeves he could get any stain out of any garment – 100% of the time. We were thoroughly impressed – he had mastered the delicate art of using a pair of scissors.

Meanwhile, our lads in the workshop tried and tried to free the gown of its horrid red stain, but it just wouldn’t release its hold on the lame. Was Jeeves defeated?

As if in a light-bulb moment we thought, “what if we used scissors?!” and instantly our head tailor got to work nipping and tucking to create a beautiful gather and perfect fold. The result? No more red stain, gold lame ready for its fashionista close-up!

Oh, and the answer to that “drastic” question? No, Jeeves remains undefeated!

Because vintage is so hot in the high-end market, Jeeves has assembled tips on “How to Buy Vintage Clothing”.

Did you know that Ralph Lauren boutiques world-wide have a small selection of vintage and antique garments in their collection? Jeeves is currently working on another cleaning project from Ralph Lauren to get these remarkable finds ready for sale.

The staff of Jeeves has cleaned thousands of vintage and antique garments for Ralph Lauren and we are seeing lots of crochet, lace, fringed shawls and beads and sequins from the late 1800‘s to early 1900‘s.

The last two cleaning projects that Jeeves received were items shopped from London and Paris. The buyers at Ralph Lauren have great eyes and bring back amazing one of a kind items for their boutiques.

Because vintage is so hot in the high-end market, Jeeves has assembled tips on “How to Buy Vintage Clothing”. Our next blog will be “How to Care for Vintage Clothing”.

How to Buy Vintage Clothing:

Look for quality first, is the garment well made? Well made garments will have less issues with wear and tear. They may be more expensive to being with, but worth it in the long run.

Check the fabric; is it separating? Vintage garments may have been exposed to excessive amounts of heat which will cause the fabric to “dry rot”. Fabric in this condition is fragile and may start to tear after the first wearing. Check the collar, cuffs, under the arms and across the seat for signs of fabric separation.

Stains? Vintage garments may have oxidized stains which will be light to dark brown or yellow in color. Oxidized stains are very difficult to impossible to remove in some cases.

Odor? Musty odors could indicate mold, look over the garment for small dark grey to black stains. Mold stains are difficult to remove unless the garment can be bleached. Strong body odors in vintage garments that can’t we washed may not be removable; let your nose be your guide.

Loose beads and sequins can be repaired but this type of work in time consuming and expensive if you are not handy with a needle and thread.

Jeeves specializes in the care of vintage and antique garments, with a team of craftsmen who care for, clean and repair these types of garments on a daily basis. Jeeves is the source in New York City for expert vintage garment cleaning, repair and care.

If you are like your man Jeeves you have been anticipating the sun not just for the summer Fridays coming your way, BUT more importantly because of the seersucker and linen waiting for you in your closet.

While Jeeves trusts that most of you were kind enough to visit him after the last summer season to drop off your summer garb to ensure for one final cleaning before storing away, it wouldn’t hurt to give them a quick once over before heading East this weekend.

Many stains linger on white fabrics such as champagne, perspiration, and perfume that are invisible to the naked eye but may have oxidized over the winter as a result of improper cleaning. What you may be seeing now are yellow stains.

Not to worry your man Jeeves and the lads at his cleaning workshop can reverse the effects of neglected clothing—turning your whites brighter than ever! Jeeves’ craftsmen employ a liquid CO2 dry cleaning system that is heat free, gentle on your clothes and removes more stains than any other type of dry cleaning.

Give your man Jeeves a call today to give your wardrobe a quick clean before heading out of town for the weekend!

For the best dry cleaner in New York City to care for your summer wardrobe; the only choice is Jeeves New York.

How many “week in a Tuscan villa” can you watch being auctioned off? Champagne is wonderful diversion, no matter if it is called prosecco, cava, sekt or sparkling wine.

As you may know, champagne can only be called champagne if it is from the Champagne region of France. But we digress, what happens when the bubbly goes awry?

Well if the person opening the champagne allows the cork to fly across the room with a loud pop and the mouth of the bottle looks like a geyser, then they are a novice. It was told to me some time ago that when removing the cork from a bottle of champagne should be as quiet as a “sigh of a woman”, and without the loss of any champagne. Why waste a drop? Save the geyser effect for the next lock-room celebration.

Back to champagne stains. You may not notice anything at all once the champagne dries on your gown, but if left untreated in a few weeks the area may turn light brown or yellow. What happened is the sugars contained in the bubbly have oxidized (just like when you eat an apple and the core turns brown).

Anytime you get champagne on your clothes, please have them cleaned or you may risk a stain that is difficult to remove. Jeeves advice, ring us and we will remove the bubbly (and potential stains) from your black tie wardrobe without you having to lift a finger.

Thanks for listening, your man Jeeves.

It’s really not a “cop out” post for Valentine’s Day, just mere coincidence.

Last week Agent Provocateur’s new shop on Madison Avenue opened and was in preview mode. Unlike Spider Man, Turn Off the Dark, the shop was open for business with the official opening party scheduled for today, one day before Valentine’s Day.

I strolled over after a minor disaster involving a freshly painted wall and a staff member’s pink uniform. Not wanting to leave a lady in distress, I walked briskly over to survey the damage. (No, they didn’t have to twist my arm, but Agent Provocateur does sell crystal whips.)

Agent Provocateur specializes in the sexiest, luxurious lingerie anywhere. Since Jeeves and Agent Provocateur were both founded in London, I was already enamored.

Their tag line is, “Flowers are for whatever, knickers are forever”.

364 days a year you can exude sexiness with knickers from Agent Provocateur, oh and even on Valentine’s Day which brings us right up to 365.

In case you are wondering “knickers” are panties in the UK.

Latex paint? Disaster no more. The Jeeves craftsmen were able to remove all traces of the disaster, without changing the luscious pink color of the uniform. No distress for the ladies at Agent Provocateur, and no whipping for the lads at Jeeves. (Though they may have been disappointed.)

Agent Provocateur is located at 675 Madison Avenue between 61st and 62nd. Go visit and get some sexy knickers.

If you have a disaster with paint or anything that puts you or your wardrobe in distress. Jeeves is your man, whip not required.

It’s not so much the snow, which is just water, but what the snow turns into when it becomes a gray and slushy.

When snow melts in New York CIty it becomes a nasty brew of water, rock salt, calcium chloride and dissolved oil and grease. The water and oils are too much of a problem but if left for extended periods of time, the rock salt and calcium chloride will damage your wardrobe.

The type of fabrics most effected by salt and calcium chloride are wool and silk. Not too many of us are wearing silk this time of the wear, but wool is common. Salt stains will occur at the bottoms of pants and on coats when you get splashed by those drivers who relish in driving fast through puddles to cause maximum collateral damage to helpless pedestrians.

Salt and calcium chloride will cause damage and color loss to fabric if left untreated. Exposure to salt will cause leather, suede and shearling to “burn”, which causes the skin to shrink and become hard to the touch.

Clean any items that have salt rings or splash marks as soon as possible. Laundry will remove salt, but generally wool is not a washable fabric. Wool should be dry cleaned which will remove the damaging salt. Jeeves’ CO2 dry cleaning process does a remarkable job of removing salt with out putting undo stress on the garment being cleaned.

With the winter of 2011 becoming one the the snowiest on record it would be a good idea to clean your most used winter winter coat now to insure that salt stains do not cause permanent and costly damage.

Thanks for listening, Jerry Pozniak,

Jeeves recommends that you clean your wardrobe one final time before storing away for the winter.

Jeeves here.

I do hope that all of you had a delightful holiday weekend and were able to appropriately relax before transitioning into a week bursting with activities ranging from religious obligations to the highly anticipated Fashion’s Night Out to kick off New York Fashion Week Spring 2011.

Before you get carried away in all the chaos taking New York City by storm, Jeeves urges you to take a moment or two to finish unpacking from the long weekend ( no judgment here if you have not done so already) and bring your summer wardrobe to Jeeves’ shop for one final cleaning.

Jeeves knows you were extra careful this weekend to not disturb the delicate linen fibers of your favorite white dress, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t evils lingering just below the surface. There are many stains that are not visible to the naked eye, and require the Jeeves touch.

In addition to clear liquids such as wine or champagne there are other substances that will linger on your clothing long after the last summer sun has set, only to rear their ugly head as an oxidized stain next summer. Perfume and sweat also come in contact with your clothing, and leaving these uncleaned on your summer clothes is an open invitation for moths to devour these pieces once they are put away for cleaning.

Your man Jeeves simply wanted to extend a friendly reminder that just because you can’t see these stains does not mean that they do not exist, and should be taken care of before its too late. To prevent from damages such as stain oxidization and moth holes all you have to do is ring your man Jeeves and he will dispatch a driver to come collect your summer clothing( right from the suitcase if you prefer) to ensure that your whites are brighter than ever next summer!

Stop by and visit your man Jeeves at 39 E. 65th Street for the best in dry cleaning throughout New York City. No one will treat your wardrobe better, and that’s the promise of a gentleman.
