As summer is full tilt here in New York City, with the temperature reaching over 90 today, we have been seeing a lot of bold colors at Jeeves.

Nothing is quite as bold as the Dolce & Gabbana jacket that we collected from a client last week for cleaning. BRIGHT and ORANGE do not do this garment justice. If this garment had a dial to regulate the brightness it would be on “11″.

It seems that the Italian designers have turned on bold since the New York and London based designers were showing sheer and nude for this Spring/Summer season. One must give the nod to Versace and Dolce & Gabbana, as their shops radiate color and pattern.

This jacket is not for the “faint of heart” and my hat is off to the gentleman who will be wearing it this week after we delivered it to him today.

Jeeves loves his Barbour waxed jacket, as April in New York City has been particularly rainy, he has worn it just about every day. Since the jacket has been getting more wear than usual, and is about 5 years old, Jeeves has noticed that the wax water proofing is wearing thin in places.

What to do?

Well you can pop off to the local Barbour shop (in New York City they are located at Madison Avenue at 80th Street) and purchase a tin of Barbour Thornproof Dressing and follow the directions.

Jeeves has tried his hand at reproofing his Barbour jacket and it is time consuming to say the least, but the lads at the Jeeves workshop can do all of the hard work for you. The project involves heating the wax, rubbing it one with a soft cloth and the use of a hair dryer to allow the wax to flow evenly into the fabric. No it is not as easy as “wax on”, “wax off”.

Jeeves New York can reproof just about any waxed cotton jacket for you. Bring in your jacket and our garment care specialists will access the amount of conditioning necessary to make your jacket water proof again.

Jeeves can also hand clean and deodorize your waxed garments as they cannot be washed or dry cleaned by traditional methods otherwise the wax finish will be ruined forever.

Reproofing a jacket at Jeeves starts at $60 and in severe cases the labour charge may be as much as $150. As for Jeeves would not give up his Barbour Enfield jacket for anything and will wear it until it is in tatters.

Sequins seemed to have ruled the runway during Fashion Week which wrapped up today. Peter Som, Diane von Furstenberg, J. Mendel, Ralph Lauren, Blanc de Chine, Jenny Packham to name a few, all showed sequins.

With sequins everywhere a gal needs to know a few tricks to keep them looking good.

• Loose sequin? Never pull the thread, you risk having the whole row becoming detached.
• Need cleaning? Most dry cleaners don’t do sequins. You’ll need a specialist, your local guy is not the person you should hand off your sequins to. (Jeeves is a sequin specialist.)
• Hang up your sequined garment as soon as you take it off. Watch out for snags.
• Sequins should lie flat and be sewn tightly to the fabric. Sequins should move with the fabric otherwise the garment will look stiff.

Don’t fear sequins, just remember that they require a tad more care than non-sequined garments.

Your man Jeeves does not have to regularly take sides during sporting events, for he by nature supports his hometown team. This has presented a slight issue over the past few weeks as one of the first matches of the 2010 Fifa World Cup was between England and the United States. Jeeves was not himself during the 90 minutes of official play as he desperately wanted to support both teams, but knew that other futbol fans frown upon this. Fortunately the match ended in a draw so Jeeves did not have to endure the stress much longer.

Jeeves’ storefronts have been proudly displaying their support of the English team with custom made Jersey’s adorning the windows and the slogan ” In the spirit of 19.66″ as a promotion during the world cup . Sadly, the 1966 signifies the last and only time England won the World Cup.

Although England entered the tournament with questions as to whether the group of superstars from their Premier League teams could come together as one. Disappointing draws with lower ranked teams left them in a position where they needed to win their last match to advance. Their 1-0 victory over Slovenia sent them into the round of sixteen looking to improve on what has been mostly lackluster play. Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is still trying to break into his goal scoring form for his national team.  Jeeves is still hopeful that perhaps 2010 is the year for England to regain the title of World Champions.

While Jeeves is much more familiar with the English team he has still been following the U.S. team just as much. The US team has played through incredible adversity throughout their group matches, and now heads into their match against Ghana with momentum. Jeeves fears that they will need it as Ghana was the team to send the US home early from the 2006 World Cup.

Your man Jeeves is saddened that he does not have a customized Jersey to sport during the matches, however he is fortunate that both teams share similar colors.

Look out for Jeeves tomorrow as he will not be working, and instead will be nestled in the back of a pub cheering on the US.

About this time last week your man Jeeves received a panicked call from Cheryl Jacobs, the spa director at The Surrey Hotel, a luxurious place not far from Jeeves.

As Jeeves spoke with Ms. Jacobs he learned of the sprinkler malfunction that had occurred within one of the private massage rooms at the spa dousing everything inside with rust stained water. Ms. Jacobs continued on to explain that this room is the main couples massage room within their magnificent spa, and the urgency in resolving this mess.

Lucky for The Surrey Hotel and Ms. Jacobs your man Jeeves dispatched his on-site team immediately to collect all the damaged pieces  for cleaning.

When Jeeves’ onsite team arrived at The Surrey Hotel they removed four pieces, two blinds and two drapes from the spa and drove straight to our production facility to begin work on this project.

Your man Jeeves had multiple members of his on-site team working on this project. Jeeves himself spent five hours alone working to remove all the rust from an ultra suede blind.  All four pieces were returned to their original condition and reinstalled back in the spa on Tuesday morning.

Thanks to the expedient work Jeeves and his team performed Ms. Jacobs only had to operate the spa for three days without the use of the private room affected by the water damage.
