Two wedding dresses, that were once beautiful and vibrant, were recently shipped to Jeeves with mold issues.

Both dresses were sent from a different, devastated bride in a quandary. Initially, they both thought that restoration of their dress was impossible, given the amount of mold that had infected each one.

 For each dress, the mold issue could have been avoided, had it not been placed in a plastic bag whilst damp for transportation after the wedding.
The first dress, took a dip in the Caribbean, along with the bride and groom, as the photographer choreographed a sunset portrait. When the dress emerged from the sea, only the hem was wet. The dress was then zipped up inside the plastic garment bag, sealing the moisture in, where it sat in St. Maarten for a week. When the bride arrived home, to New York, the hem of the dress was covered in black mold.

The problem with the second dress, started innocently enough. A smudge of cake frosting on the front was washed away, with bottled water, after the reception. The bodice was more than damp, and the dress was placed in the plastic garment bag for shipping back to New York. Once the dress arrived, a greenish, black mold had infected the top of the dress.

Both dresses could be restored, but the results were mixed. About 90% of the mold was removed from the dress that swimming in the sea, where as, a full 100% of the mold was removed from the other dress. A tremendous amount of additional time and labor was needed for both restoration projects, which added hundreds of dollars to the original fee.

Here is a guide for all brides. Four things are necessary for mold to grow.

1. Moisture.

2. Heat.

3. A closed environment.

4. Time (Mold starts growing in 72 hours).

Jeeves does not recommend that you store ANY garment in plastic, especially your wedding dress. If your bridal gown has gotten wet or damp on your wedding day, please let it air dry before placing into any garment bag. A short time after your wedding, you should consider having your dress cleaned, as stains and soil will be more difficult to remove the longer you wait.

Your man Jeeves knows his clients are no strangers to shearling garments. Let’s face it, shearling is a fashionable way to keep super warm now that the temperatures have dipped in the single digits in New York.

However, because shearling is an investment and the winter weather can wreak havoc on your winter wardrobe, most shearling owners find themselves hesitant to pull them from out of the closet on the nasty days.

Jeeves wants you to be happy, fashionable and warm, so he put together a little list of tips that will bring you comfort while you wear that shearling garment in any weather. Here is his advice:

#1 – Keep your shearling away from salt.
The salt can burn the skin, making it as hard as cardboard. If splashed with salt and/or snow, have your shearling garment cleaned ASAP.

#2 – If your shearling gets wet, air dry it.
Never put it into a clothes dryer.

#3 – When your shearling shows signs of soil, have it cleaned.
If you wait until it is extremely dirty, it may never look new again.

#4 – Hang up your shearling on a proper hanger.
Don’t use a skimpy wire hanger or a door knob. You will distort the skins.

#5 – Never store shearling in plastic.
Use a breathable, cloth garment bag.

#6 – Don’t store shearling in a place that gets direct sunlight.
This may cause damage to the dye of the shearling.

#7 – When your shearling needs to be cleaned, consult an expert.
Your neighborhood dry cleaner may not have the expertise to take care of your investment properly. Cleaning shearling is not like cleaning fabric.

#8 – Never put tape or stickers on your shearling to indicate stained areas.
The stickers will leave marks, that may not come out after cleaning.

Yesterday afternoon Jeeves received a call from celebrity stylist Robert Verdi. A client of his was having a MAJOR Fashion Emergency, and as he is a long standing client as well as dear friend of Your Man Jeeves he knew just who to call.

The Problem: The Editor-In-Chief for a very prominent publication hosted a dinner for President Obama, following his fund raising activities yesterday evening, and just hours before they were to be seated the zipper to her Black Valentino Dress broke.

The Solution: After Jeeves had been alerted of the issue, he instructed her assistant to bring the dress to the shop to be repaired immediately. Thirty minutes later the dress was as good as new, and ready for it’s presidential debut!

Jeeves was pleased that his staff was able to so readily assist and resuscitate the dress, as the only thing that would be worse than meeting President Obama with a wardrobe malfunction would be meeting the ever stylish First Lady under those circumstances.

While Thanksgiving is a very deeply rooted American tradition, Jeeves has no problem celebrating ( not to mention over-indulging) as the roots of this holiday lie in merry ole’ England with the masts of the Mayflower.

After years of residing in the U.S. , your man Jeeves can’t help but to look forward to one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Unlike many New Yorkers who brave the crowds and the cold Jeeves & Mrs. Jeeves are quite content to watch from the comfort of their own home as they prepare to entertain family and friends.

For the last two years however, this tradition has taken on a new meaning for your man Jeeves as he has been entrusted with the cleaning and caring for the costumes of the Samurai Power Rangers.

Jeeves has been hard at work for the last few days to ensure that these super heroes are able to impress their fans not only with their martial arts, but with their appearance as well.

Jeeves meet the lead ranger at 10PM after their arrival to JFK on Sunday evening to retrieve these brightly colored spandex ensembles from their cross-country trek. There was no time for rest and no room for the weary as Jeeves and his team went straight to the shop to get to work as they were expected by 3PM on Monday afternoon for rehearsal. On Tuesday morning Jeeves dispatched his tailor to meet with the Power Rangers for a custom costume fitting. Once this session was completed the costumes were once again returned to the workshop for repairs, alterations & cleaning. All were completed in time to be returned for yet another rehearsal early Wednesday afternoon.

While the universe counts on the Power Ranges to protect them against the powers of evil, they rely on your man Jeeves to rescue them from sweat stains and broken zippers (fighting the bad guys is hard work) It may not be as glamorous as being a super hero, but people depend on your man Jeeves in the same fashion.

If you plan to tune in and watch the parade tomorrow morning be sure to keep your man Jeeves in mind as he and his team worked very hard to make sure that the vibrant colors of the five masked heroes stand out to all of those watching.

Your man Jeeves loves awards shows not only for the celebration of the incredible talent spanning various industries, but for the designs that keep the red carpet dazzling! Last night’s AMA’s did not disappoint as many of music’s leading ladies arrived in Jeeves’ favorite labels. Jeeves doesn’t mean any disrespect towards the gentleman and their outfit choices, however he is a traditional dresser and simply can’t understand  why one would opt for anything other than a well tailored suit or tuxedo for such a formal affair; well done Justin Bieber for being so dapper in a perfectly fitted tuxedo.

It was not a surprise to see Heidi Klum & Jennifer Lopez; two well established fashion icons sporting two of the latest trends in the audience. With Klum in a cutout metallic mini, and Lopez in a sheer lace floor length gown it was impossible not to notice them.

Jeeves’ favorite looks of the night however are reserved for the ladies in pink; Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. For the first time Jeeves can remember Minaj brought serious sophistication to the red carpet in a very loud lack and neon gown by Oscar de La Renta. Her bubble hair matched the hue of special achievement award winner Katy Perry’s evening wardrobe, which included three different pink ensembles complimenting her hair.

Jeeves’ favorite look of the evening however belonged to the ever beautiful Taylor Swift in a champagne colored gown by Reem Acra which sparkled almost as much as Swift when was awarded the coveted Artist of the Year award.

There never seems to be a shortage of Chanel gracing the red carpets of New York City’s and at last night’s affair at Museum of Modern Art this was most certainly the case as Karl Lagerfeld  hosted the  4th Annual Film benefit “A Tribute to Pedro Almodovar”.

Your Man Jeeves handles this couture collection on a regular basis, but was amazed by the sheer volume and beauty that graced this red carpet. The only thing more beautiful than the gowns was the wall bedecked in over 20,000 red roses for this extravagant affair.

As to be expected Lagerfeld was joined by the fashion elite, like Diane Von Furstenberg  & Anna Wintour as well as two of his regular muses; young starlets Blake Lively and Elizabeth Olsen. Equally as stunning that evening were the ever stylish, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Emma Stone. While designs ranged from season’s past to those fresh off the runway there wasn’t one look that didn’t belong.

Jeeves has worked very closely on many Chanel collections over the years and hopes that you will entrust him to care for your couture should the opportunity arise.

Your man Jeeves was fortunate enough to return to one of the most highly anticipated events of the Fall; The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Instead of spending the evening at home like any other Wednesday, Jeeves was backstage at The Lexington Avenue Armory surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful women.

Jeeves’ involvement with the show was to ensure that the elaborately ornate outfits created for this annual affair remained in pristine condition in between tapings ( you wouldn’t believe the amount of makeup that rubs off!)

Jeeves, always a man of his word can’t divulge ALL of the delicious details from his backstage endeavors. Aside from the miraculous bra that was worn by Miranda Kerr and valued at 2.5 million dollars your Man Jeeves can only share a few of his favorite outfits from the evening with you including; an inflatable latex top & belt , a lace top with a large cameo, and a light up bra!

Until the show airs Jeeves’ lips are sealed but with fashion themes that required: feathers,lace, tulle, sequins, pompoms, and parasols you can rest assured that Jeeves had his hands full! As you know, your man Jeeves has the privilege of working with so many brides throughout the New York area, and often times plays a vital role leading up to the nuptials. Jeeves was introduced to a lovely young lady a few weeks ago, who having purchased a sample gown with only two weeks leading up to her wedding required both cleaning and alterations before the big day. The Jeeves team works their magic and the gown is absolutely perfect for her Prospect Park Wedding.

The young bride had been dreaming about a fall wedding her whole life, so it seemed only fitting that she and her husband-to-be select Halloween weekend as the date for the union. Mother nature had different plans in mind as she dumped an unexpected not to mention unappreciated snow storm over New York on Saturday. This freak storm left the bride unable to take her wedding photos, and her gown very soiled. To make matters worse she had a full glass of red wine spilled on her during the reception!

Jeeves now has his work cut out for him to re-restore this dress in order for the bride to take her wedding photos before the snow comes again!

As the leaves change from their monotonous tones of green to vibrant red, yellow, and orange, our wardrobes follow suit and assimilate to the changing of the seasons.  Fall embodies transition allowing us to experiment with layers, form, color, and texture.  It permits an understanding of playfulness and experimentation when creating a look which, in turn, provides us with the most intriguing lines and runways of the year.  This fall, keep your eyes peeled for fur and leather accent pieces to grace the runways and streets alike.
All along the runway, furs were a prominent part of many shows at fashion week.  Despite the economic downturn, designers kept the glamour alive by using fur accents to create a luxurious palette.  By utilizing these accents, designers can give a look texture and a sense of opulence to an otherwise structured line.  Unlike past seasons, we are seeing fur done in more bold colors- Gucci paired brilliantly bright fur with vintage inspired structural suits to create an era driven storyline.  Fur is even showing up in the accessory closet with hats, purses, and even shoes embodying the ultimate cozy chic ensemble.  In order to preserve these pieces in all their glory, make sure to properly clean and store each garment.  Jeeves will properly remove stains or oils before storage in order to ensure your fur will endure many more seasons.

Although miss Mother Nature has kept us believing that summer days seem like yesterday, with daydreams of florals and summer whites, as the sun beams along Park Avenue, we must not forget the fall season is under way.  Unfortunately, this means most of those whimsical linen dresses and white cotton slacks shall be kept away for another spring day.
We all know that with great fashion opportunity comes great fashion responsibility; therefore, our beloved ‘summer whites’ must be properly cleaned and stored until their next ‘Memorial Debut’.  There’s nothing worse than realizing your favorite summer dinner dress wasn’t hibernating during the long winter months; rather, it was being thoroughly enjoyed by your favorite closet critters: moths.
These wardrobe munchers have an uncanny sixth sense when it comes to clothing – their ‘fashion instincts’ are so keen that we’re borderline envious of their abilities to detect microscopic traces of food, oil, and perfume.

These criminals of couture will seek out many liquid stains that dry clear and become virtually naked to the human eye.  So while we’re cozying up in comfy cashmere, our resident moths are snacking away on our summer staples.  These invisible stains have another culprit; during storage, they can become oxidized resulting in an unflattering brown or yellow pigment.  These scenarios are entirely avoidable by properly cleaning and preserving your precious pieces.
