Each week the lads at Jeeves get a special package from Albright Fashion Library, and enclosed are all sorts of wonderful garments in need of mending or cleaning. Each week it is a real treat to see what an amazing collection they have; Lanvin, Chanel, Balmain, Prada, Christian Dior every week Jeeves receives a small sample of their extensive and beautiful collection.

In case you are not familiar with Albright, they are the premiere “go to” source for renting high-end fashion. They have an on-site stylist that can create an entire look for you and have you red carpet ready in the blink of an eye. They have an enormous 7000 square foot loft space in Cooper Square that is filled with the best of the best in couture and high-end fashion.

A few weeks ago we got a call from a young lady at in need of having her Valentino gown cleaned in three hours for an event that evening. She described a stain that would take days to remove not hours. We sent her to Albright so she would look fabulous for the event and be ready in time.

Albright sends everything they need taken care of to Jeeves because they need the fine craftsmanship and care that only Jeeves can provide. Jeeves is honored to have the trust of the Albright Fashion Library.

Dry Cleaning Tips

It is another cold, damp, dreary day here in New York City. With a mix of freezing rain and snow on the horizon. I need spring and I need it now.

To get my spring fix I walked over just a few blocks from Jeeves’ Madison Avenue location to 62nd street to visit Hermes. This location of Hermes focuses on menswear only, and when you walk into the first floor you are treated to a riot of color.

Hermes ties everywhere! Color everywhere!

You are not “somewhere over the rainbow” you are in the rainbow and it is made of silk. The jolt of color from Hermes brighten my day, if only for an hour.

I walked back to the Jeeves shop with “spring” in my step. Yes it is cold, rainy and icy, but if I look really, really hard at the horizon, I can imagine spring.

Oh and if you get a spot on your Hermes tie, Jeeves will be on the spot straight away. Hermes makes ties by hand and Jeeves only cleans them by hand. Jeeves would not do it any other way!

It doesn’t have to be difficult.

After your wedding you ask yourself, do I keep my wedding dress or not?

If you want to keep your wedding dress or even sell it, you should have it cleaned. Find a dry cleaner who cleans a lot of wedding dresses, the neighborhood guy who takes care of your husband’s shirts may not do. It is all too easy for a dry cleaner to get into trouble quickly when they are inexperienced with cleaning wedding dresses.

Preservation is not hocus-pocus, you do not need to have chemicals applied or inert gasses pumped into your dress to have it last a really long time. When I was attending the School of Visual Arts in NYC one of my professors drilled into my head, “keep it simple”. Museums use a very simple method to preserve historic textiles and so do we at Jeeves New York. All that needs to be done is to put your dress away clean, store it in contact with acid-neutral materials and put it away someplace where it doesn’t get super hot or damp (no attics or basements).

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Your man Jeeves has recently become the go to source for designer Allison Parris. Right now we have a wonderful dress embellished with feathers everywhere. Jeeves’ assistant Mollie loves this dress (we both can’t wait to go to the Allison Parris runway show in a few weeks).

Jeeves’ job? To figure out the best method to safely clean this great dress.

Since your man Jeeves is the most experienced garment care expert in New York City this is a natural fit. Also since Jeeves is the only luxury dry cleaner in New York City to use the CO2 method, we can test using all available methods.

Currently Jeeves is testing the dress to see which dry cleaning method is best. Jeeves is also testing to see if the dress should be hand cleaned or spot cleaned only.
