The Dry Cleaner

Recent Studies Link Perc to Parkinson’s & Cancer

With all the fun that Jeeves had during Fashion Week he had almost forgotten about all the other news updates he had been receiving over the past two weeks. Your man Jeeves always likes to stay well informed especially when there is news pertaining to his trade.  The dry cleaning industry suffered a fatal blow as the news shed some new light onto a very touchy topic.

The most common dry cleaning chemical, perchloroethylene (perc) has been labeled by the US EPA as a “likely human carcinogen” in a report published this week. Another report report released by The Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center  links perc exposure to Parkinson’s disease.

Now you know why your man Jeeves is so adamant about his ECO2 Cleanse process…

Currently 85% of all dry cleaning firms in the US still use Perc to clean clothes! Your man Jeeves is not the best at math, but there are over 3,000 dry cleaners alone in Manhattan so imagine what that means on a national scale and 85% of them are still introducing a toxic chemical to their clients??

Fortunately, in a few months,   any machine  that is 15 years or older still operating with Perc will be banned in the state of California.  A statewide ban on all machines using perc will take effect in 2023. Your man Jeeves thinks that 10 years is a long time to wait for change, but is also curious why other states are not working towards passing similar legislation?

Your man Jeeves knows that his CO2 Cleaning machine is not inexpensive, however there are other cleaning alternatives that could greatly reduce the use and need for perc. Currently, the US EPA has listed two methods of garment cleaning “safe”, CO2 dry cleaning and wet-cleaning.

Jeeves has boasted time and time again about the superb cleaning capabilities of his CO2 ECO2 Cleanse process, and wishes he could share these with other cleaners so that they could keep their clients  and the environment safe just like your man Jeeves does for you.

It may be a long time before the permanent ban of Perc, but for now for CO2 dry cleaning and wet cleaning in NYC Jeeves New York is completely Perc free!

Jeeves Attends Perry Ellis Fall 2010 Fashion Show

After an exciting but exhausting weekend, Jeeves was thrilled to be in the audience for the show of one of his favorite men’s designers, Perry Ellis and not be tucked away backstage.

As soon as the first look hit the runway your man Jeeves already knew he was going to be very busy next fall if these looks are indicative of what is to come. With jackets in deep hues, and made of distinct materials including goat skin had Jeeves on the edge of his seat for what would be next down the runway.

Jeeves was very excited to see that velvet blazers would be returning to the stores next fall, but with a little more flare for the dramatic with their leather trimming.  There was no shortage of fitted suits perfect for your man Jeeves and his clients.

If you also enjoyed the Perry Ellis Fall 2010 collection just remember that your man Jeeves offers the best leather cleaning in NYC, and his chemical free ECO2 Cleanse process will keep your suits looking sharp and odorless!

Jeeves cleans down with CO2

As the weekend approaches, so does the impending doom of yet another winter storm bringing with it lots of frozen precipitation, and the need for the warmest of your outerwear.

Your man Jeeves has had just about enough of these cold New York days, and is certainly ready for spring and the warmer weather. However, on these brisk days he braves the streets wearing his down jacket which he only used to wear on the exceptionally cold days because it was quite an ordeal to clean.

In the past Jeeves had avoided cleaning this jacket at great lengths due to the fact that the first one he purchased when arriving in the US was almost ruined because of his ignorance to care for a garment he was unfamiliar with.

Many down jackets instruct the consumer NOT to dry clean these jackets. Why? Typically, in the dry cleaning process the feathers all clump together so that their warmth is no longer distributed throughout the entire jacket. Worst of all, the chemical odor lingers in the feathers and follows you everywhere.

The same results tend to happen with home cleaning sans the cleaning odor, but with the added potential for a devastating headache as many cleaning professionals instruct that tennis balls or sneakers be placed in the dryer with the jacket to help redistribute the feathers.

This cleaning was a futile effort for your man Jeeves until now. With the introduction of the CO2 machine, and this being Jeeves’ first winter with the ECO2 Cleanse process he figured he would try his luck. By this point he had tried everything else…

Before cleaning Jeeves was very hopeful, for he had helped Mrs. Jeeves during the last snow blast, and had seriously soiled his jacket. In case you were unaware your man Jeeves LOVES color, so his vibrant jacket does not conceal stains well.

The results were remarkable! The jacket was removed from the machine spotless, odorless, and colder than the temperature outside the store. Your man Jeeves felt like he had just received a brand new jacket and it only took half the time of regular dry cleaning.

CO2 dry cleaning is able to clean any down jacket much better than any other process and in much less time.

For all your down jacket cleaning needs come visit your man Jeeves, the only luxury garment care firm with CO2 in all of Manhattan.

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Your man Jeeves has recently become the go to source for designer Allison Parris. Right now we have a wonderful dress embellished with feathers everywhere. Jeeves’ assistant Mollie loves this dress (we both can’t wait to go to the Allison Parris runway show in a few weeks).

Jeeves’ job? To figure out the best method to safely clean this great dress.

Since your man Jeeves is the most experienced garment care expert in New York City this is a natural fit. Also since Jeeves is the only luxury dry cleaner in New York City to use the CO2 method, we can test using all available methods.

Currently Jeeves is testing the dress to see which dry cleaning method is best. Jeeves is also testing to see if the dress should be hand cleaned or spot cleaned only.

It’s rewarding to be trusted by Allison Parris on such an important assignment. Jeeves loves what he does!

As soon as we are done Jeeves will share the results with you. Thanks for listening, your man Jeeves.

The Doctor is in

A recent discovery in the medical world inspired your man Jeeves to do a little research of his own. Doctors everywhere have been under the microscope ( quite literally) for their standard uniform involving a potential bacteria transmitter.

You may be wondering how this is even possible as hospitals are known to be among the most sterile places. The answer my friends is simple. The necktie. As I had mentioned in my post from last week there is a certain aura of professionalism and success associated with one’s appearance.

Especially in a field such as medicine individuals will undoubtedly have more confidence in a well dressed physician than a slovenly man. This being said you can imagine the uproar this is causing among medical professionals.

About five years ago, a study was performed right here in the city at the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens that involved 42 medical personnel. Your man Jeeves was shocked to learn that almost 50% if the neckties analyzed were host to bacteria that can cause pneumonia, blood infections, and more.

Before learning of the correlation between germs and ties your man Jeeves would have never assumed this to be an issue. Jeeves would only dryclean his ties if he were to have a little mishap while eating.

It is beneficial that your man Jeeves is so well informed because now he can share this valuable information with his clients some of whom practice medicine in Manhattan.

The streamlined ECO2 Cleanse process does a remarkable job of cleaning as many of you may already know, however you were probably unaware that it has also proven to be very effective at removing contaminants.

Research has been conducted that would suggest cleaning with CO2 kills germs more effectively than traditional drycleaning. Since research and testing are continuing this is not a FDA approved method yet.

Your man Jeeves would hate to see the tie go out of style so if you are affiliated with medicine in Manhattan in anyway please allow Jeeves and his ECO2 Cleanse process to help keep ties bacteria free.

Rena Lange and Dye Stain Removal at Jeeves

Rena Lange Slacks with Dye

Your man Jeeves received a call last week from the manager at Rena Lange. They were in a bit of a bind as a steamer in their shop decieded to leak onto a gray jacket which was touching these beautiful white wool crepe slacks.

As you may have noticed the dye from the jacket has caused considerable damage to the white slacks, which were entrusted to Jeeves for restoration.

Our head cleaning technician was given the challenge and after hours of careful work and cleaning in liquid carbon dioxide the results are nothing less than perfection.

Jeeves has seen far too many garments with stains such as this ruined due to improper dry cleaning by shops who do not employ craftsmen.

Stain removal requires extensive knowledge of chemistry, garment construction, and fabric types. By simply placing a garment into a dry cleaning machine does not yield a stain free result.

Rena Lange Slacks after Restoration

Your man Jeeves is known world wide as the place to take care of the most difficult stains on the most delicate of garments. Why trust anyone else?

Jeeves is one of America’s Best Cleaners and the only world wide garment care concern. Jeeves New York is the only luxury garment care firm in New York to be 100% petrochemical free.

All dry cleaning at Jeeves is accomplished in liquid CO2 which is the only method approved as safe by the EPA.

For the love of luxury

Chanel double ladies

I love luxury. And luxury lies not in richness or ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity.”

-Coco Chanel

Chanel has always been a presence both in and around New York City. With two retail locations just blocks away from our store on the Upper East Side, your man Jeeves has always loved the double C.

Not until recently however, did your man Jeeves realize that he and this fashion icon shared so much in common. As a gentleman it is only natural that Jeeves does not care for vulgarity, and typically keeps company that shares this.

Too bad for Jeeves that he and Coco were never able to discuss their love of luxury, their aversion to crudeness, or their appreciation for fashion.

As you all know Jeeves of Belgravia is the only international luxury garment care firm, so your man Jeeves would have been able to tend to all the needs of this legendary fashion icon. His reputation for quality and excellence most definitely precedes him.

Your man Jeeves can promise you service above the rest. His love for luxury items, as well as his staff’s expert training in this field guarantees your garments will be well cared for. From Science Fiction to Reality

jeeves scientist

The door clicked into a locked position, as the technician rotated the door hatch. She checked the visual indicator to make sure the seal was not breached and then glanced at the computer screen to initiate the pressurization sequence.

Carbon dioxide began to pump from the holding tanks into the chamber as the pressure went from sea level to 650 PSI.  The carbon dioxide began to transform into a liquid, exactly what the technician needed.

Once the desired result had been achieved, the cylinder depressurized, and the CO2 returned to its original state as a gas.

When the technician released the hatch and opened the door she witnessed something remarkable…

Her blouse and jacket from the night before had been cleaned. Perfectly.

If you’re thinking that your man Jeeves has a soft spot for science fiction, think again.  Described above is the Eco2 Cleanse process, available at Jeeves NY, and is the newest most technologically advanced way to clean clothes.

Little has changed since the evolution of dry cleaning over the last 150 years, and your man Jeeves has always understood the fundamentals of clothes washing, garments are washed in a liquid (either a petrochemical or water), soap is added to remove stains and then dried using heat.

CO2 dry cleaning changed every one of Jeeves’ beliefs about the cleaning process when he was first introduced to Eco2 Cleanse. Although clothes are still washed in a liquid, the physical properties of CO2 allow clothing to be cleaned in a heat free environment so they are removed from the machine at near freezing temperatures.

Your man Jeeves has really outdone himself this time with the level of cleaning he is now offering clients due to his exclusive use of CO2 on dry cleaning. This method far surpasses any other dry cleaning method out there.  Jeeves is also preserving your wardrobe by subjecting your garments to less wear-and-tear with his new system!

CO2 dry cleaning right now is very rare with less than 25 firms in the world using this type of technology. Lucky for all you residing in Manhattan, Jeeves of Belgravia can offer you this service, and you can join your man Jeeves in his innovative industry changes.

The CO2 process is also the only method of dry cleaning that has been approved as safe by the EPA.

For dry cleaning New York you can choose traditional dry cleaning which has not evolved in 150 years or turn to your man Jeeves and his new process that is Simply Green, Simply Clean and Simply Better for You.

Thanksgiving Stains and Your Man Jeeves

Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry Sauce

Your man Jeeves hasn’t always celebrated Thanksgiving, in fact he still is a bit leery of the idea. Being an import from Britain, the notion of celebrating a quintessential American holiday can be  a bit much, but he is learning to love the Macy’s Parade.

Jeeves is certain of one thing , Thanksgiving always means work.

A large dinner  with many guests tends to be a bit trying on Jeeves’ nerves, especially with the potential for a variety of stains.

Cranberry stains are somewhat difficult whether they be on your crisp white table linens or your favorite silk tie. Never the less, remove as much of the offending sauce as possible without rubbing the stain. Bring the tie to your man Jeeves as soon as possible so he can remedy the situation for you. Linens should be pretreated and washed right away, and of course Jeeves can take care of this for you as well.

Gravy can create quite the predicament as well.  Most have butter as an ingredient so anything stained with gravy may need the Jeeves touch and to be dry cleaned. Jeeves’ new Eco2 Cleanse CO2 dry cleaning process takes care of gravy stains wonderfully, plus is environmentally responsible.

Unruly grass stains may present themselves while your family works off their newly acquired calories playing “football” ( your man Jeeves prefers futbol). Hopefully everyone will change into more casual attire and will not subject their Thanksgiving best to tumbling in the grass.

With proper pretreatment, grass stains can wash out of washable clothing, but for stubborn stains, Jeeves is always at your service.

Jeeves’ Thanksgiving tradition  is relaxing after a long day with a spot of Port and a slice of pumpkin pie.

Mad Men & Dry Cleaning

Don Draper & Jeeves

Don Draper & Jeeves

“People were buying cigarettes before Freud was born”, Don Draper, Mad Men.

Your man Jeeves would suggest to Mr. Draper that he use our services on a regular basis. One would hope that when you meet with clients you always look (which Mr. Draper does) and smell your best.

With all of the smoking that Mr. Draper does in confined quarters the odor of smoke must permeate his wardrobe.

With the smoking, and Mr. Draper’s habitual womanizing, Jeeves would recommend frequent dry cleaning of his suits to remove perfume odors and perhaps Mrs. Draper wouldn’t be leaving him. Jeeves does not condone Mr. Draper’s actions, but has been trained to “look the other way” with such matters.

Jeeves can also attend to Mr. Draper’s stains, whether they be a splash of a Manhattan or a “tell tale” smudge of lipstick.

With Mr. Draper, “living like there’s no tomorrow, because there isn’t one”, it would be Jeeves’ hope to keep Mr. Draper looking and smelling great.

Jeeves’ services include hand finished dry cleaning using our hybrid CO2 process, Eco2 Cleanse. Dry cleaning in the 1960’s was accomplished with harmful chemicals, but Jeeves NY process is state-of-the-art.

No other worldwide Jeeves location or any other New York luxury dry cleaning firm has Eco2 Cleanse.

“Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you’re doing is OK. You are OK”, Don Draper, Mad Men

Eco2 Cleanse, “Simply Green, Simply Clean, Simply Better for You”, Jeeves New York. What would Mr. Draper think?
