The Dry Cleaner

Allison Parris and her man Jeeves

Allison Parris Spring 2010 by Alix Pozniak

People always tell you that they save the best for last, and this past week was no exception. Traveling out in yet another snowfall, your Man Jeeves traveled to  a spacious loft on the West side to preview the latest from a designer we have already introduced you to; Allison Parris.

As previously mentioned Jeeves has become the go to source for the designer, so he could not wait to see what else she had in store. It must be said however, that Jeeves’ assistant Mollie was a bit more excited since the pieces are a bit more to her taste.

The loft was a very stark white which was a magnificent contrast to the neutral tones and beaded accents of the collection. Although these designs were different from Parris’ first collection her signature look still commanded the collection with chain embellishments, full flirty skirts, and sassy shirt dresses.

All the embellished and beaded pieces will need careful attention during cleaning, so that they do not fall apart. For all your complicated cleaning needs Jeeves New York has just the team to care for your clothes.

Your man Jeeves could not help but to notice the following that the designer has developed as many young women in the audience were wearing pieces from last season’s collection. Most popular among these were the “Silk Wrap Skirt”, and the “Tulle Mini Skirt.”

If you own any pieces by Allison Parris that you do not trust your cleaner to care for please bring it to your man Jeeves who is now Allison’s man Jeeves.

Jeeves cleans down with CO2

As the weekend approaches, so does the impending doom of yet another winter storm bringing with it lots of frozen precipitation, and the need for the warmest of your outerwear.

Your man Jeeves has had just about enough of these cold New York days, and is certainly ready for spring and the warmer weather. However, on these brisk days he braves the streets wearing his down jacket which he only used to wear on the exceptionally cold days because it was quite an ordeal to clean.

In the past Jeeves had avoided cleaning this jacket at great lengths due to the fact that the first one he purchased when arriving in the US was almost ruined because of his ignorance to care for a garment he was unfamiliar with.

Many down jackets instruct the consumer NOT to dry clean these jackets. Why? Typically, in the dry cleaning process the feathers all clump together so that their warmth is no longer distributed throughout the entire jacket. Worst of all, the chemical odor lingers in the feathers and follows you everywhere.

The same results tend to happen with home cleaning sans the cleaning odor, but with the added potential for a devastating headache as many cleaning professionals instruct that tennis balls or sneakers be placed in the dryer with the jacket to help redistribute the feathers.

This cleaning was a futile effort for your man Jeeves until now. With the introduction of the CO2 machine, and this being Jeeves’ first winter with the ECO2 Cleanse process he figured he would try his luck. By this point he had tried everything else…

Before cleaning Jeeves was very hopeful, for he had helped Mrs. Jeeves during the last snow blast, and had seriously soiled his jacket. In case you were unaware your man Jeeves LOVES color, so his vibrant jacket does not conceal stains well.

The results were remarkable! The jacket was removed from the machine spotless, odorless, and colder than the temperature outside the store. Your man Jeeves felt like he had just received a brand new jacket and it only took half the time of regular dry cleaning.

CO2 dry cleaning is able to clean any down jacket much better than any other process and in much less time.

For all your down jacket cleaning needs come visit your man Jeeves, the only luxury garment care firm with CO2 in all of Manhattan.

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Allison Parris Feather Dress

Your man Jeeves has recently become the go to source for designer Allison Parris. Right now we have a wonderful dress embellished with feathers everywhere. Jeeves’ assistant Mollie loves this dress (we both can’t wait to go to the Allison Parris runway show in a few weeks).

Jeeves’ job? To figure out the best method to safely clean this great dress.

Since your man Jeeves is the most experienced garment care expert in New York City this is a natural fit. Also since Jeeves is the only luxury dry cleaner in New York City to use the CO2 method, we can test using all available methods.

Currently Jeeves is testing the dress to see which dry cleaning method is best. Jeeves is also testing to see if the dress should be hand cleaned or spot cleaned only.

It’s rewarding to be trusted by Allison Parris on such an important assignment. Jeeves loves what he does!

As soon as we are done Jeeves will share the results with you. Thanks for listening, your man Jeeves.

Co2 Dry Cleaning = Best Cleaning Available

Just Cavalli Jacket

Just Cavalli Jacket

Co2 dry cleaning vs. traditional dry cleaning. The difference will astound you!

Actually from a cleaning standpoint there is no comparison. Our Co2 dry cleaning process, Eco2 Cleanse does a better job no questions asked.

For the last three weeks the Jeeves’ technicians (who have over 77 years of collective experience) have been working with our new Co2 dry cleaning machine and everyone of them were “wowed” by the results.

And this crowd is not typically  “wowed” by anything.  Seeing the final result of the Eco2 cleanse process , turned these skeptics into true believers.

Garments that were impossible to clean properly, can now be cleaned beautifully.

At Jeeves we were working on a Just Cavalli outer jacket that was very soiled (and that is putting it kindly). Cleaning this garment was an issue because it has white leather trim, fur trim, down filling and a silk exterior.

Traditional dry cleaning would  ruin the fur. The use of  a wet cleaning process would distort the fabric of the outer jacket and hand cleaning would never remove all of the embedded soil.

Eco Cleanse to the rescue! My techs have figured out how to safely clean just about anything using Co2 and they benefit besides great dry cleaning…

  • Simply Green- No petrochemicals or perc. Garments are cleaned in the same substance that puts the “fizz” in soda.
  • Simply Clean- Whites stay white, dark colors stay dark and colors are vibrant.
  • Simply Better for You- Why expose your skin to harmful chemicals?

36,000 Costumes Cleaned for The Met

Aida at the Met

Aida at the Met

At last count your man Jeeves  has cleaned over 36,000 costumes for the Metropolitan Opera House. What an accomplishment.

And these aren’t everyday items.

The costumes at the Metropolitan Opera’s are the best-of-the-best. Their costume designers use only the finest fabrics and materials. Yards and yards of silk, miles of crinoline. You wouldn’t believe  how much padding is in some of the petticoats.

Garments are referred to as; mantua, frock, breeches and court jackets. The language of their wardrobe quickly transports one back in time.

Corsets are worn under gowns to pinch in a woman’s waist and  padded petticoats give  hips the required width. When all is said and done some of the gowns must weigh 30 pounds!

One of the most amazing things about the costumes at the Met is how well made they are. No detail is too small, including proper period buttons and embellishments.

The costume designers at the Met are truly magicians. My staff and I are transported to another place and time every time these costumes are brought to us for cleaning.

This week we are in ancient Egypt; we are cleaning Aida.

Thanks for listening, your man Jeeves.

Save Your Skins! or Leather & Suede Tips

Runway model wearing leather

Runway model wearing leather

Fall has arrived in NYC with Mother Nature giving us 30 degree temperatures one day and 70 degrees the next. Your man Jeeves has some tips to look great and stay warm on those chilly days when you reach for your leather jacket.

  • Inspect your leather and suede garments before the first wear of the season. Look for stains, heavy soiling and repairs that may be needed.
  • Repair open seams, torn linings and loose buttons now. These are all small problems that can be fixed inexpensively but can become expensive repairs if ignored
  • If your leather or suede garment is stained or has heavy soiling, have it cleaned otherwise stains will become permanent! Cleaning adds conditions which keep leather soft and supple.
  • Have leather items conditioned annually if cleaning is unnecessary.
  • Consider having a “Shower & Stain” protection applied to suede items. This will potentially prevent spotting from rain showers and repel some stains.
  • As leather ages it gathers a patina that adds to the character of the garment. Have fun wearing your leather!

If you do need any of the above services, our in-house leather and suede cleaning team can help.

Did you know that most other garment care firms do not clean leather and suede in house? So you never know where your garments are going.

If our leather and suede cleaning team cannot clean your garment, nobody can. Your man, Jeeves.

Whom You Know Panel of Experts Recommends Eau Flirt

Eau Flirt

Eau Flirt

This was sent by your man Jeeves’ good friend Peachy Deegan of Whom You Know…. let Jeeves know what you think.

We are pleased to present the facts:

Eau Flirt ®

The Scent of Seduction

You can hurry love…when you’re wearing the right perfume. Eau Flirt® eau de toilette puts science to the service of romance in a unique elixir containing ingredients proven to quicken the pulse of potential suitors. So dab it on your pulse points and let the seduction begin!
The world’s first perfume clinically proven to make men flirt with women

Eau Flirt was inspired by a study conducted at the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation by two physicians. The study tested the effects of 30 different single scent or combined ingredient scents on male sexual arousal. The combination of lavender and pumpkin pie proved to evoke the most passionate response.

Eau Flirt’s proprietary blend includes top notes black currant, plum, raspberry, apple, and black licorice and lavender, middle notes of jasmine, ylang, nutmeg and cinnamon (the classic aromas of pumpkin pie), and a drydown of musk and rare and precious woods. Ingredients are all natural flower and plant essences and sourced from France, Italy and the U.S.

No animal testing has been done and it’s allergy tested with no artificial colorings.

And the fact is, we recommend it. A lot of scientific studies have been performed and although we got A’s on our term papers, we think you are more interested in what our credentials are for flirting and what our panel thought. Here’s what you need to know about the studies that were executed before the product came out: It was performed by an Ivy-League school, fragrance changes your perception of people, studies going back to 1974 were considered, and men overwhelmingly prefer women to wear perfume. And the components of this perfume are formulated with the most successful components of the study.

Although Peachy Deegan is a girl under the radar with her pseudonym, the fact is she is one of the best flirts around-the CBS Early Show even picked her to flirt on national television last year. She has been wearing it since she got it and has had some excellent responses!

Our panel of experts commented:

“Is it possible to have a seductive scent? Although skeptical, I was eager to give it a try! All the ingredients are natural flowers and plants, I love that fact that there is no testing on animals, and it has been allergy tested. The combination of lavender and pumpkin pie are proved to evoke the most passionate responses. So off I went for my evening out, I sprayed it on…..I am not sure if men wanted to flirt with me more than usual, or was it that I oozed confidence because I believed in the product, either way you should definitely give it a try!”

“I find Eau Flirt to be a delightful scent–mainly because I am not a perfume lover. I do not like to wear a fragrance that permeates a room or an elevator because it is too dominating. Eau Flirt, on the other hand, leaves a light and intriguing fragrance without overpowering. I love it for that!”

“Eau Flirt is very sweet and lightly spicy – not overpowering; it condours up the sensual feeling of wanting to be by the ocean…I love it!”

“Eau Flirt has just the cutest bottle. The bottle’s very sturdy but sleek design leaves no worries about spills in your bag. A vibrantly clean scent that envokes a flirtatious mood. One of the loveliest, fresh scents ever! One spray of this perfume lingers for hours. It has a crisp lime green color with even a crisper fresh, sexy scent. People have stopped me on the street to ask what scent I’m wearing – very flattering! It has a subtly exotic scent with spicy undertones….a feminine, glamorous quality. This fragrance is more refreshing than anything I have tried before, and it retains a freshness. It’s a keeper!”

“You can be a serious Flirt wearing this perfume! I tested it while on a bachelorette party bar hopping and the fun citrus scent lasted all night. It was a nice sweet smell without being overpowering and it received many compliments. The perfume is a great summer scent and I highly recommend it! Do not let the cartoon box fool you as the scent is very mature. Everyone asked me where I found out about it and I referred them to our great and informative blog- whomyouknow.com. Please let people know where they can get it - www.harveyprince.com – as many were interested in purchasing it. It is well worth the high price tag as I have never found a perfume which made me feel so young and vibracious!”

“When this fragrance was launched just less than 2 months ago, I was quite intrigued and eager to give it a test drive. It’s been clinically proven to attract men, hence doing some of the flirtation work for you, which sounds good to me, as flirting isn’t something that I’ve always excelled in. It’s also appealing to have something
as effortless as spritzing on a fragrance work for you. While Eau Flirt’s notes and formulation remain a closely guarded secret (don’t all flirts have some secret flirt skills?), it’s reassuring to know that some of the notes do remind me of the most loved and now-classic fragrances out there. While I can’t say Eau Flirt drew the men to me in droves, I do like the scent enough to use it often, so the flirt test is still ongoing! The illustration on the packaging and bottle is very whimsical and fun, thoroughly capturing the flirt mood and mindset. Personally, I think getting yourself to a flirtatious state and being a good flirt is very much a state of mind too, so if a fragrance like Eau Flirt can put you in that state and give you an
edge, then why not dab some on before going out?”

To get yours and flirt up a storm:

Fall into Winter

Rainy, cold day in NYC

Rainy, cold day in NYC

Nippy day here in New York City, wet and gloomy.  Jeeves had to tie a scarf around his neck for the first time this season, then slipped on his gloves.

So, how does your man Jeeves get ready for cold weather?

  • Don’t wait to have your winter coats and jackets cleaned; clean them before a stain develops.
  • Check for moth damage. Wool garments that were not cleaned before summer arrived should be looked at.  Moth holes can be repaired, but invisible weaving can get costly.
  • Leather, suede and shearling garments that are soiled should be cleaned before winter.  Have these garments “weather proofed”, which will help them shed water and soiling.
  • Have loose buttons, hooks and other closures repaired now. There is nothing worse than having a coat that cannot be buttoned up on a freezing cold day.
  • Check your other garments for open seams and falling linings. These areas take a lot of wear and should be fixed before they get worse.

Following these simple steps will insure an easy transition into Winter and save you hassle If you need cleaning advice, just ring your man Jeeves. As always he is at your service.

Jeeves can provide the ultimate in garment care for you just about anywhere around the globe. For those in New York City, Jeeves offers complimentary pick-up and delivery. Elsewhere Jeeves can ship via FEDEX.

Jeeves is only one of 23 garment care firms in the USA selected as one of America’s Best Cleaners.

Chemical Free Couture Cleaning

Eco2Cleanse

Eco2Cleanse

As you may know, Jeeves of Belgravia is the only worldwide garment care firm. The New York location of Jeeves will be the first location in the world to remove all harmful petrochemicals from the dry cleaning process.

This change will also make Jeeves the only luxury dry cleaning firm in New York to remove all harmful petrochemicals from the dry cleaning process.

The new dry cleaning process, the first true technological innovation in the dry cleaning industry in over 50 years replaces solvents with food grade liquid carbon dioxide.

Jeeves is making an investment in the newest version of  CO2 dry cleaning technology marketed by Solvair. Jeeves’ process using CO2 will be trademarked as Eco2Cleanse with Solvair.

The benefits of Eco2Cleanse are:

  • No Petrochemicals.
  • Does not add to greenhouse gases or smog formation.
  • Superior stain removal.
  • Clean, bright odor free clothes. Whites stay white.
  • Prevents stains from setting because the process is cold.
  • Clothes last longer.
  • Less energy use.

As the managing director for Jeeves New York I have spent the last 6 months testing this process to see how it compares to traditional dry cleaning. My findings indicate that the CO2 process is superior to traditional dry cleaning and exceeds the Jeeves standards.

Jeeves will be using the Eco2Cleanse with Solvair process in mid October 2009.
