Fashion for Relief London Fashion Week

Your man Jeeves was very pleased to receive word from Jeeves London that the Fashion for Relief show in London held at The Somerset House was met with similar success to the one Jeeves attended at Bryant Park.

Just like in New York, Naomi Campbell gathered her friends and acquiantances all among the fashion elite to strut their stuff for the White Ribbon Alliance. Among the favorites to take to the runway were Gerri Hallowell, Pixie Geldof, James Corden, and Andrew Flintoff.

From the pictures your man Jeeves received from the event it seems that spirits were high backstage before, during , and after the show. Naomi Campbell had inscribed a note on the wall visible to all as they entered the runway that read ” Be you, be fabulous, be fun! Jeeves greatly admires Ms. Campbell for her positive and encouraging philanthropic projects.

The evening was not all smiles and cheer as the show closed with another tribute to the beloved designer Alexander McQueen. While the rest of the participants wore customized t-shirts for the finale Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Annabelle Nielson took to the catwalk in designs by McQueen.

Your man Jeeves learned that there was an auction immediately following the show where Topshop boss Sir Philip Green put in the final bid of 100,000 pound for the Alexander McQueen design worn by Kate Moss. The Fashion for Relief show in London raised over £1million for the White Ribbon Alliance.

Jeeves is looking forward to more exciting news as London Fashion week continues.

Jeeves Attends Perry Ellis Fall 2010 Fashion Show

After an exciting but exhausting weekend, Jeeves was thrilled to be in the audience for the show of one of his favorite men’s designers, Perry Ellis and not be tucked away backstage.

As soon as the first look hit the runway your man Jeeves already knew he was going to be very busy next fall if these looks are indicative of what is to come. With jackets in deep hues, and made of distinct materials including goat skin had Jeeves on the edge of his seat for what would be next down the runway.

Jeeves was very excited to see that velvet blazers would be returning to the stores next fall, but with a little more flare for the dramatic with their leather trimming.  There was no shortage of fitted suits perfect for your man Jeeves and his clients.

If you also enjoyed the Perry Ellis Fall 2010 collection just remember that your man Jeeves offers the best leather cleaning in NYC, and his chemical free ECO2 Cleanse process will keep your suits looking sharp and odorless!

Jeeves cleans down with CO2

As the weekend approaches, so does the impending doom of yet another winter storm bringing with it lots of frozen precipitation, and the need for the warmest of your outerwear.

Your man Jeeves has had just about enough of these cold New York days, and is certainly ready for spring and the warmer weather. However, on these brisk days he braves the streets wearing his down jacket which he only used to wear on the exceptionally cold days because it was quite an ordeal to clean.

In the past Jeeves had avoided cleaning this jacket at great lengths due to the fact that the first one he purchased when arriving in the US was almost ruined because of his ignorance to care for a garment he was unfamiliar with.

Many down jackets instruct the consumer NOT to dry clean these jackets. Why? Typically, in the dry cleaning process the feathers all clump together so that their warmth is no longer distributed throughout the entire jacket. Worst of all, the chemical odor lingers in the feathers and follows you everywhere.

The same results tend to happen with home cleaning sans the cleaning odor, but with the added potential for a devastating headache as many cleaning professionals instruct that tennis balls or sneakers be placed in the dryer with the jacket to help redistribute the feathers.

This cleaning was a futile effort for your man Jeeves until now. With the introduction of the CO2 machine, and this being Jeeves’ first winter with the ECO2 Cleanse process he figured he would try his luck. By this point he had tried everything else…

Before cleaning Jeeves was very hopeful, for he had helped Mrs. Jeeves during the last snow blast, and had seriously soiled his jacket. In case you were unaware your man Jeeves LOVES color, so his vibrant jacket does not conceal stains well.

The results were remarkable! The jacket was removed from the machine spotless, odorless, and colder than the temperature outside the store. Your man Jeeves felt like he had just received a brand new jacket and it only took half the time of regular dry cleaning.

CO2 dry cleaning is able to clean any down jacket much better than any other process and in much less time.

For all your down jacket cleaning needs come visit your man Jeeves, the only luxury garment care firm with CO2 in all of Manhattan.

How Secure Are your Pockets

The majority of Jeeves’ family still lives on the other side of the Atlantic, so he greatly anticipates their weekly chats. Your man Jeeves is a little behind the times and has not quite figured out skyping yet, so he still relies on the telephone. When he rang his youngest brother, Alfred this week they discussed a similar trend between their two businesses (Alfred handles luxury garments as well).

The conclusion that these two gentlemen came to is the astounding volume of items left behind in the pockets of dry cleaning clients.

A study conducted in the U. K. stated that almost 5,000 memory sticks and portable devices were found in pockets across 100 dry cleaners last year alone. This study was conducted by a security firm , Credant Technologies in an effort to emphasize why information on devices such as these should be encrypted.

Your man Jeeves does not care much for what this study is implying about the general public’s disposition, but does recognize the need for concern and precaution.

If you are someone who deals with highly personal or sensitive information Jeeves recommends that you not download unprotected information or other information to portable storage devices that if lost could lead to a breach in security or worse.

  • Your man Jeeves has a few suggestions to help you keep track of your personal belongings:
  • Empty your pockets when undressing
  • Place items of value in a briefcase or purse
  • If you must place them in a pocket check to make sure there are no holes
  • Take a few extra minutes before sending clothes out to check your pockets

Rest assured that anything you forget to remove from your pockets before you send it to Jeeves for cleaning will be returned to you. Jeeves’ staff carefully attends to all pockets before cleaning to ensure that nothing is ruined or lost.

The Doctor is in

A recent discovery in the medical world inspired your man Jeeves to do a little research of his own. Doctors everywhere have been under the microscope ( quite literally) for their standard uniform involving a potential bacteria transmitter.

You may be wondering how this is even possible as hospitals are known to be among the most sterile places. The answer my friends is simple. The necktie. As I had mentioned in my post from last week there is a certain aura of professionalism and success associated with one’s appearance.

Especially in a field such as medicine individuals will undoubtedly have more confidence in a well dressed physician than a slovenly man. This being said you can imagine the uproar this is causing among medical professionals.

About five years ago, a study was performed right here in the city at the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens that involved 42 medical personnel. Your man Jeeves was shocked to learn that almost 50% if the neckties analyzed were host to bacteria that can cause pneumonia, blood infections, and more.

Before learning of the correlation between germs and ties your man Jeeves would have never assumed this to be an issue. Jeeves would only dryclean his ties if he were to have a little mishap while eating.

It is beneficial that your man Jeeves is so well informed because now he can share this valuable information with his clients some of whom practice medicine in Manhattan.

The streamlined ECO2 Cleanse process does a remarkable job of cleaning as many of you may already know, however you were probably unaware that it has also proven to be very effective at removing contaminants.

Research has been conducted that would suggest cleaning with CO2 kills germs more effectively than traditional drycleaning. Since research and testing are continuing this is not a FDA approved method yet.

Your man Jeeves would hate to see the tie go out of style so if you are affiliated with medicine in Manhattan in anyway please allow Jeeves and his ECO2 Cleanse process to help keep ties bacteria free.

The Pocket Square

Don Draper with pocket square

Don Draper

Jeeves was very fortunate this Christmas. Mrs. Jeeves was very kind and thoughtful (as always) and gave Jeeves the gift of a few more pocket squares for his collection.

The pocket square is considered by Jeeves as the most overlooked item in a well dressed gentleman’s wardrobe. To quote the Art of Manliness, “Don’t leave your suit naked.”

Well dressed gentlemen from Frank Sinatra, Sean Combs and Don Draper would never be seen without a pocket square.

Your pocket square should always pick up a touch of color from your tie, but never allow yourself to purchase a matching tie and pocket square, it is just too much.

A white pocket square can be worn with anything and it is Jeeves favourite. In fact Jeeves only wears a white pocket square.

Jeeves was at a holiday party last week and immediately struck up a conversation with a gentleman that he had never met before. The gentleman had a perfectly “4 point” folded pocket square (and in white!), this was an easy conversation starter.

Gentlemen, it’s high time for pocket squares, don’t leave your suits naked. And for Jeeves it is time for high tea.

For more information about how to fold a pocket square the Art of Manliness has a great post here.

When your pocket square and your suit needs a perfect cleaning, please do consider Jeeves.

Jeeves is renowned world wide for finest in garment care. Jeeves can clean or repair just about anything made of cloth, leather or suede anywhere.

Leather in this weather?

Your man Jeeves thought leather jackets were a thing of the past. Not since the music styling’s of The Ramones and Billy Idol had leather infiltrated the fashion scene.

On his nightly stroll down Madison Avenue Jeeves could not help but to take note of the fact that the models in all his favorite store windows were sporting leather in every hue, texture, and style.

As he continued on his way home your man Jeeves became very aware that this “style” had leapt of the mannequins and onto every gentleman and young lady on the Upper East Side.

Mad Men & Dry Cleaning

Don Draper & Jeeves

Don Draper & Jeeves

“People were buying cigarettes before Freud was born”, Don Draper, Mad Men.

Your man Jeeves would suggest to Mr. Draper that he use our services on a regular basis. One would hope that when you meet with clients you always look (which Mr. Draper does) and smell your best.

With all of the smoking that Mr. Draper does in confined quarters the odor of smoke must permeate his wardrobe.

With the smoking, and Mr. Draper’s habitual womanizing, Jeeves would recommend frequent dry cleaning of his suits to remove perfume odors and perhaps Mrs. Draper wouldn’t be leaving him. Jeeves does not condone Mr. Draper’s actions, but has been trained to “look the other way” with such matters.

Jeeves can also attend to Mr. Draper’s stains, whether they be a splash of a Manhattan or a “tell tale” smudge of lipstick.

With Mr. Draper, “living like there’s no tomorrow, because there isn’t one”, it would be Jeeves’ hope to keep Mr. Draper looking and smelling great.

Jeeves’ services include hand finished dry cleaning using our hybrid CO2 process, Eco2 Cleanse. Dry cleaning in the 1960’s was accomplished with harmful chemicals, but Jeeves NY process is state-of-the-art.

No other worldwide Jeeves location or any other New York luxury dry cleaning firm has Eco2 Cleanse.

“Advertising is based on one thing: happiness. And do you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car. It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of a road that screams with reassurance that whatever you’re doing is OK. You are OK”, Don Draper, Mad Men

Eco2 Cleanse, “Simply Green, Simply Clean, Simply Better for You”, Jeeves New York. What would Mr. Draper think?

Save Your Skins! or Leather & Suede Tips

Runway model wearing leather

Fall has arrived in NYC with Mother Nature giving us 30 degree temperatures one day and 70 degrees the next. Your man Jeeves has some tips to look great and stay warm on those chilly days when you reach for your leather jacket.

  • Inspect your leather and suede garments before the first wear of the season. Look for stains, heavy soiling and repairs that may be needed.
  • Repair open seams, torn linings and loose buttons now. These are all small problems that can be fixed inexpensively but can become expensive repairs if ignored
  • If your leather or suede garment is stained or has heavy soiling, have it cleaned otherwise stains will become permanent! Cleaning adds conditions which keep leather soft and supple.
  • Have leather items conditioned annually if cleaning is unnecessary.
  • Consider having a “Shower & Stain” protection applied to suede items. This will potentially prevent spotting from rain showers and repel some stains.
  • As leather ages it gathers a patina that adds to the character of the garment. Have fun wearing your leather!

If you do need any of the above services, our in-house leather and suede cleaning team can help.

Did you know that most other garment care firms do not clean leather and suede in house? So you never know where your garments are going.

If our leather and suede cleaning team cannot clean your garment, nobody can. Your man, Jeeves.

Fall into Winter

Rainy, cold day in NYC

Rainy, cold day in NYC

Nippy day here in New York City, wet and gloomy.  Jeeves had to tie a scarf around his neck for the first time this season, then slipped on his gloves.

So, how does your man Jeeves get ready for cold weather?

  • Don’t wait to have your winter coats and jackets cleaned; clean them before a stain develops.
  • Check for moth damage. Wool garments that were not cleaned before summer arrived should be looked at.  Moth holes can be repaired, but invisible weaving can get costly.
  • Leather, suede and shearling garments that are soiled should be cleaned before winter.  Have these garments “weather proofed”, which will help them shed water and soiling.
  • Have loose buttons, hooks and other closures repaired now. There is nothing worse than having a coat that cannot be buttoned up on a freezing cold day.
  • Check your other garments for open seams and falling linings. These areas take a lot of wear and should be fixed before they get worse.

Following these simple steps will insure an easy transition into Winter and save you hassle If you need cleaning advice, just ring your man Jeeves. As always he is at your service.

Jeeves can provide the ultimate in garment care for you just about anywhere around the globe. For those in New York City, Jeeves offers complimentary pick-up and delivery. Elsewhere Jeeves can ship via FEDEX.
