After Jeeves New York Managing Director, Jerry Pozniak, appeared on the March 7th, 2014 episode of ABC’s 20/20, these words reverberated on twitter for the next couple of hours:
Dirty solvent? “It’s like taking a bath & five other people took a bath [in that water] before you.”
So what do you need to know about dirty solvent? And how can you tell if your local dry cleaner is cutting corners?… It’s actually quite simple.
Solvent is what is used to clean all of the clothes that go into the dry cleaning machines. After a few cycles, it’s important for the dry cleaner to filter out the dirt and grime that has collected in the solvent. When they don’t, the solvent that should be crystal clear can look like black coffee.
The easiest way to tell that the solvent is dirty, is when you take a white top to the cleaner and it comes back gray instead of bright white. So next time you take your clothes to the cleaner, and they come back dingy, ask them…”Do you clean in clear dry cleaning solvent?”.
