Stretch leather pants have been super popular for some time and there are a few issues that you should know about before buying a pair.
In order for leather to stretch like a legging, designers have been able to cut lambskin super thin to allow it to stretch. Leather likes to stretch in one direction but doesn’t usually like to stretch back, like spandex leggings do.
So, super thin lambskin is backed with a stretch type material to help the leather stretch when you put them on and stay tight after many wearings. The problem is that the stretch material needs to be bonded (glued) to the lambskin.
Sometimes after numerous wearings or cleaning, the bonding fails and the leather pants no longer look smooth, but have a puckered appearance. This problem cannot be corrected and is an issue in manufacturing.
If leather is stained with urine, blood or street salt, these agents will burn leather, causing it to shrink and become hard and cardboard like. This will happen upon contact with blood, but urine and street salt will cause the burn after cleaning. If your leather garment has been in contact with any of the above agents, you should discuss this with the dry cleaning firm that you are using, so that they are informed.
