Silk carpet, with and without pencil mark

The ultimate underfoot experience is an area rug woven in all silk or a blend of wool & silk. Silk area rugs have a depth of color and sheen that cannot be reproduced with wool or synthetic fibers, and this luxury comes with a high price tag.

Routine maintenance of silk area rugs involves regular vacuuming, but once stained, cleaning is a headache. The issue with silk rugs is that water cannot be used as a cleaning agent. Most stains that get on carpets need water based stain removers. Take water out of the equation with a silk rug and you are severely limited with stain removal.

Jeeves recently was able to remove a mark on a silk rug from a pencil that had got caught in our client’s vacuum cleaner. Our staff tested the stain at the client’s home and then removed the rug for cleaning at our workroom. Working inch by inch we were able to remove 32 inches of pencil mark in a beautiful silk rug, that ordinarily could not be cleaned.
