You’re running out the front door and accidentally bump your shoulder on the door frame, pulling your favorite blouse. A snag occurs. What do you do next?
Unfortunately snags are ALWAYS best left to professionals. And our course of action is dependent on the type of fabric affected. Below is information on how we fix the snags, and the best ways to care for them!
1. Satin
Never pull, the pull, you WILL create a hole. Normally for this type of fabric Jeeves NY tailors will pull the fiber threads back through the snagged area, and re-align the fibers. Because metallic satins are a floating weave (instead of going in and out on every thread, the fabric thread skips a few strands so its just ‘floating’ on top), they are slightly looser woven fabric, and PRONE to snagging. Extra care and precaution must be taken to prevent any damage to these kinds of garments.
2. Knit Silk
Usually caused by jewelry and hang nails, a pull in silk can result in irreparable damage. Never cut it hoping to solve the problem. As soon as a snag occurs bring it to Jeeves NY or a tailor of your choice. We will attempt to correct the pulled fibers, or in some get a little creative. If the pull has progressed to a hole or caused a pull throughout the entire garment, there is nothing that can be done.
3.Loosely Woven Knit
More prone to pulls and snags, due to the loose nature of the garment, you have to be VERY careful with these pieces. When putting away in a drawer or closet, wrap with tissue paper and make sure that the garment next to it does not have a hook for closure that can snag it. Again for these pulls, Jeeves NY attempts to weave the fabric back through any snag to re-align the fibers.
