Bed linens can be just as delicate as our clothing, so why don’t we think of the best way to clean and preserve them like we do our clothes? As always, Jeeves has got you covered…Here’s what you need to know about bed linens!
Most people are able to wash their bed linens at home, but for bedding that have complex color patterns, are not cotton or linen, have a high thread count, or in general for duvets, shams and bedcovers, it is preferable to wash with a dry cleaner.
Dry cleaners have the cleaning solutions required to safely remove stains, avoid color distortion or bleeding, clean with no shrinkage and preserve the feel of the bedding fabrics. This also extends to throws or blankets, as while some are machine washable, others that are made of alpaca, wool or cashmere, should be taken to a dry cleaner.
If you are going to wash your sheets at home, its important to be aware of the following tips:
-Never use fabric softeners, as though it does make the fabric soft initially, it is actually breaking down the fabric fibers.
-DO NOT BLEACH! It will lead to the pre-mature yellowing of the fabric and weaken fibers.
-Hang dry sheets, but if you must use a dryer, dry on the lowest setting possible.
